Telecommunications and service providers have been able to prepare for hurricanes, tornados, or other natural disasters and implement disaster recovery plans to ensure their customers’ business/mission critical data is protected, secure and accessible. A global pandemic though, isn’t something anyone ever planned for or could even truly understand the far-reaching effects it would have on everything we do – how we all work, learn, communicate, and entertain ourselves. Reliable communication is now more essential than ever, and having access to diverse routes and ample bandwidth and capacity are key. 

Now the question becomes, what effects has COVID-19 had on communication and network infrastructure? To ensure that our communications infrastructure is reliable and always-available, it is important to understand how our networks work and how they are architected at both the subsea and terrestrial levels.
