DATA MOVERS: The Digital Future

Uptime Institute found that staffing shortages are one of the top three challenges for data center leaders this year. This creates elevated risk within data center environments. Staffing challenges haven’t improved since 2023. Given the astronomical growth the industry is set to experience over the next few years, we need solutions, fast. We’ll hear from industry recruiters, HR leaders and hiring managers. Do we need more training programs? More open-minded hiring teams? More general industry awareness? All of the above?

Many more training programs are promoting the digital infrastructure industry in recent years, though arguably still not nearly enough. Which ones are having the greatest impact? What success stories can we pass along that will inspire new programs? We'll bring together academic and industry leaders to discuss.

>It’s a two-way partnership between the younger and more seasoned generations! A peaceful transfer of power (and harmony in workplaces until then!) is critical. We'll ask our guests: What do you think younger folks bring to the table for our industry? What makes you excited about working in our industry? Why should more Gen Zers enter the industry?

The digital infrastructure industry is in the middle of a massive, necessary and challenging sustainability shift. For those passionate about a career in sustainability, what are the current and future opportunities to enter our industry? With Gen Z known for its climate activism and sustainability-first buying choices, how can the industry benefit from their fresh perspective? Will every data center and telecom company eventually have a Chief Sustainability Officer?

How much are robots & automation really taking over? How will our industry’s titles shift in the next 10 years? What are the new career paths that students should prepare for now? Let's dive into one of the most fascinating topics in our industry right now!

The skyrocketing growth in our industry puts a massive strain on the humans keeping the internet online and data flowing — and such an insular, young sector means we stay close to our competitors. These facts converge to create an invisible revolving door from operator to operator — and some would say that door is busier than ever. How do we prevent burnout and keep employees motivated to do the best work of their career right where they are?

Veterans have proven themselves to be incredible assets to our industry. Because of this, some organizations have launched recruiting and training programs to attract more veterans — which is a piece of the solution for the talent gap in our sector. We'll speak with a few experts about how to attract and retain more veterans, the top transferrable skills from the military to the digital infrastructure community and more.
