Scala Data Centers Breaks Records with $250M Green Debenture to Complete Latin America’s Largest Data Center

Scala Data Centers, a leader in sustainable data centers across Latin America, has made headlines again by issuing $250 million US dollars (USD) in green debentures. This latest financial move is part of Scala’s ongoing commitment to sustainability and innovation, bringing the company’s total green debenture issuance to an impressive $803 million USD —a record for Brazil.

The funds from this issuance will be allocated to the completion of the largest data center building in Latin America, SGRUTB09. Located within Scala’s expansive Tamboré Campus in São Paulo, this facility will boast 36 MW of IT capacity. With the Tamboré Campus offering a total IT capacity of 450 MW, it will be the largest data center complex in Latin America by projected capacity.

Scala’s SGRUTB09 facility is designed to cater to the rising demands of mixed Cloud and Artificial Intelligence (AI) workloads. The building will feature Scala’s innovative FutureProof design, developed by the company’s Center of Excellence in Engineering (CoE). This design allows for the deployment of racks with variable and scalable densities, ensuring the facility can adapt to the evolving needs of AI and other advanced technologies. Additionally, the development aligns with Scala’s strong sustainability ethos, offering high energy efficiency with an annual average Power Usage Effectiveness (PUE) below 1.3 and a Water Usage Effectiveness (WUE) of zero, alongside carbon-neutral operations.

Scala’s CEO and co-founder, Marcos Peigo, emphasized the importance of this green debenture issuance in supporting the company’s strategic growth while reaffirming its dedication to sustainability.

“The demand for digital infrastructure is growing exponentially, accelerated by the advancement of Artificial Intelligence. This strategic initiative not only allows us to efficiently finance the expansion of our data centers but also solidifies our position as leaders in sustainable and scalable technological solutions,” Peigo stated.

Scala’s consistent focus on sustainability is evident in its fourth overall and third green debenture issuance, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable practices. The company’s ability to raise significant capital through these green debentures cements its leadership in the data center industry and highlights the growing interest from major financial institutions in supporting environmentally responsible projects.
