At JSA, kindness is more than a value—it’s how we do business. More than sixteen years into my career here at JSA, I was honored to work with our amazing team to formally recognize our commitment to kindness by achieving the Kindness in the Workplace Certification, recently awarded to us by the Random Acts of Kindness Foundation.
This certification honors organizations that intentionally build compassion, respect, and positivity into their workplace culture. For us, it was a natural step forward; kindness has always been at the heart of JSA.
What the Certification Involved
To earn the designation, the applying company must engage in a selected “RAKtivity” (Random Acts of Kindness activity) designed to encourage thoughtfulness inside the workplace and in the community.
Our team embraced this challenge, selecting an activity that allowed us share encouragement and support with others, while demonstrating creativity and compassion.
Our RAKtivity: Handwritten Care Cards
Our team elected to write, decorate and send handwritten care cards to residents and staff at Colonial Healthcare in Plainfield, Connecticut.
Together with our families, we created 119 cards, each filled with messages of care, encouragement, and gratitude. The facility welcomed them with open arms, sharing their appreciation for the outpouring of kindness. What may have seemed like a small act from us became a meaningful reminder to the recipients that they are valued and remembered. In fact, we’re working with this same facility to engage in a Pen Pal program in the near future.

Kindness in Action: A JSA Core Value
This initiative is a reflection of one of JSA’s guiding principles: Honesty, Integrity & Kindness.
These aren’t just words on our website—they shape the way we interact with clients, colleagues, and our wider community. The care cards project allowed us to bring this value to life, showing how a little intentional kindness can make a big difference.
Looking Forward
Receiving the Kindness in the Workplace Certification is an accomplishment we’re proud of, but it’s also a reminder: kindness is an ongoing practice. At JSA, we’ll continue finding new ways to embed kindness into everything we do, from supporting our clients to engaging with our communities.
