Tecto Brings R$200M Data Center Investment to Southern Brazil

Tecto Data Centers announced a R$200 million investment in a new facility in Porto Alegre, marking a new key player in Latin America’s digital infrastructure landscape. The investment will strengthen the region’s connectivity and position Rio Grande do Sul as a strategic technology hub.

The TPOA1 data center will be built in the Sarandi neighborhood on a 33,000-square-meter site, delivering 20 MW of total power capacity. What makes this project particularly significant is its direct connection to the Malbec submarine cable — a 2,500 km network linking Brazil and Argentina that connects Rio de Janeiro, São Paulo, Buenos Aires, and now Porto Alegre.

Operations will begin in Q4 of 2026 with an initial 3 MW capacity, expanding gradually to reach full capacity. Rather than building from scratch, Tecto is retrofitting an existing warehouse, adapting it to meet the demanding standards required for high-performance data centers.

Sustainability sits at the heart of the project. The facility will use a closed-loop air-cooling system with zero water consumption and operate entirely on renewable energy. This approach reflects Tecto’s commitment to balancing operational excellence with environmental responsibility — critical as global data demands continue to surge.

“The direct connection to V.tal’s Malbec cable positions Porto Alegre as a strategic point for critical applications, cloud services, and content delivery,” said Tito Costa, Tecto’s CRO. The facility will serve major tech companies, cloud providers, and enterprise clients, filling a crucial infrastructure gap in southern Brazil.

Governor Eduardo Leite emphasized the broader impact: “Connecting the new data center to the Malbec submarine cable definitively places Rio Grande do Sul on the global data route,” he said, noting it will attract high-value businesses and create qualified jobs.

With six operational data centers across Brazil and Colombia, Tecto continues expanding its Latin American footprint, backed by V.tal’s extensive fiber-optic and submarine cable infrastructure spanning over 476,000 km.
