T5 Data Centers (T5), the telecommunications industry’s only full lifecycle data center partner, has unveiled plans for a significant expansion by developing a new data center campus in Grayslake, Illinois. Situated approximately 40 miles northwest of Chicago, the 160-acre site will support up to 480 megawatts (MW) of critical IT capacity across multiple data center buildings.
According to David Horowitz, Executive Vice President of Leasing at T5 Data Centers, the new Grayslake campus represents a significant investment by the company, a testament to its commitment to meeting the growing demand for large-scale data center capacity from cloud and enterprise customers.
“The site’s location between the major data center hubs of the northern Chicago suburbs and southeastern Wisconsin provides an ideal connection point,” Horowitz said. “Grayslake is perfectly positioned to support our customers’ needs for scalable power to enable technologies like artificial intelligence.”
Development will commence immediately with the site already zoned for data center use. The first 60MW data center building is targeted for completion in Q4 2027. An on-site electrical substation will ensure efficient and redundant utility power delivery. The expansion supports T5’s long-term vision.
“Our vision is to build out large-scale, hyperscale campuses like Grayslake to consolidate our service offerings while maintaining a flexible footprint wherever our customers need capacity. As the data center industry evolves, we see these mega-campuses as the future, enabling scale and scope efficiencies,” said Pete Marin, President and CEO of T5 Data Centers.
The Grayslake development aligns with T5’s strategy to concentrate its data center solutions in interconnected, hyperscale campuses, providing development, construction services, and facilities management for continuous uptime and 24/7 support.
