PTC’22 – A Closer Look at 5G and WI-FI 6

The beautiful Hawaiian islands are an amazing getaway for many, especially those in colder climes! In the telecom industry, the annual Pacific Telecommunications Council (PTC) conference is synonymous with sunny days, cool breezes, gorgeous scenery…and meeting up with industry friends both old and new.

PTC’22 will be held January 16th through the 19th in Honolulu and this year’s theme is very fitting: Reunite. Rethink. Renew.

Phil Olivero, CTO for Lightpath will weigh in on one of the keynote panels, entitled: ‘5G AND WI-FI 6: WHAT’S IMPORTANT NOW’ that will take place on Monday, 17 January at 15:30pm. Registered attendees can catch the discussion either ONLINE or in Person in room MPCC, South Pacific 3 & 4.

Other panel participants include:

  • Gary Kim, Consultant, IP Carrier, USA (MODERATOR)
  • Dean Bubley, Director, Disruptive Analysis, United Kingdom (PANELIST)
  • Patricia Paoletta, Partner, Harris, Wiltshire & Grannis LLP, USA (PANELIST)

Panelists will discuss a range of topics including the state of 5G, Network Virtualization, Enterprise 5G and Private 5G, Open RAN, 5G network rollout, 5G spectrum availability, use cases and more.

While 5G promises dramatic improvements in responsiveness and speed, there are a number of factors that are proving to be a challenge for global carriers. Olivero will delve into challenges and discuss ways in which the industry collectively can work to solve issues and drive advancements not just in the heavily populated areas that are often more advanced, but also to rural communities and harder to navigate geographies.

Lightpath is significantly impacting how organizations connect to their digital destinations. The company invested millions of dollars in network upgrades that include next-generation optical and packet networks that provide customers with unsurpassed service levels, resiliency, reliability, and security.

With more than 18,000 route miles, Lightpath’s network connects more than 12,000 locations, offering its customers a robust portfolio of all-fiber solutions, 75+ on-net data centers on the Lightpath network, seven cable landing stations (CLS), and all major cloud providers.
