Strengthens its Position as the Premier Fiber Provider in the Northeast, Introduces LightCube Edge Data Centers
Lightpath, an all-fiber, infrastructure-based connectivity provider revolutionizing how organizations connect to their digital destinations, announced the company has officially closed the transaction to acquire substantially all of the assets of United Fiber and Data (UFD). This strategic asset addition strengthens Lightpath’s position as the premier fiber provider in the Northeast. It further elevates the company’s position within the digital infrastructure industry by expanding its reach within the key New York Metro and Ashburn markets.
Between these critical markets, Lightpath is continually growing its portfolio of unique and diverse pathways, expanding its network with a geographically diverse, 323-mile route connecting NYC to Ashburn. Additionally, Lightpath also adds 79 miles of metro fiber in New York City and New Jersey, further densifying its presence in these key markets. With the addition of approximately 250 new commercial service locations in Manhattan alone, Lightpath proudly serves 1,500 enterprise and data center locations across the city – a staggering fivefold increase in just three years. This rapid growth underscores Lightpath’s aggressive expansion strategy and commitment to delivering best-in-class fiber infrastructure.

NYC-Ashburn: Unmatched Diversity, Ultra-Low Latency, & Skyrocketing Demand
Lightpath’s New York City to Ashburn route isn’t just another fiber path; it’s an industry game-changer for businesses that demand speed, reliability, and route diversity. This route offers the industry’s lowest latency between the country’s largest population center and the world’s most critical data center and cloud ecosystem.
Tim Haverkate, EVP of Major Infrastructure Solutions, states, “This route represents a unique opportunity for customers to connect these critical markets with diversity, latency management, and soon the addition of edge compute facilities. Lightpath has seen surging demand on this route, with nearly 25% of the cable under contract, a 3.5x increase since the transaction was initially announced. Further, we are engaged in active conversations with 20 customers resulting in an opportunity pipeline that would oversubscribe the route as it exists today.”
Customers can seamlessly connect to 140+ data centers across the network and businesses have the ability to route traffic from any on-net data center in the NY and Boston Metro regions to Ashburn, unlocking an incredibly powerful low-latency, high-capacity connection.
The demand speaks for itself and as businesses require more from their networks, Lightpath’s NYC-Ashburn route is proving to be one of the most sought-after, future-ready solutions available on the market today.
Introducing LightCube: Connected Edge Data Centers for AI Services and Edge Compute
If this announcement wasn’t groundbreaking enough, Lightpath, in response to escalating market needs, also introduced LightCube edge data centers—modular, secure, and purpose-built for high capacity workloads.
These facilities, designed to fully support 864-count fiber cables, will deliver the space, power, and connectivity needed for next-gen edge compute applications. Lightpath is also upgrading four existing ILAs with new LightCubes on the NYC-Ashburn route to meet increasing customer demand.
