Séamus Dunne, Managing Director of Interxion, a Digital Realty Company, discusses the growing Ireland market during a JSA TV interview with Joao Marques Lima. Currently one of the most active colocation markets in Europe, Ireland has very strong ties to the United States, making it a particularly attractive destination to bridge the US and Europe. Dunne mentions that increasingly more large tech, pharma and medtech companies are placing European headquarters in the country, thus driving the country’s economy.
During the interview, Dunne remarks that the next five years should see some interesting shifts when it comes to digital transformation and data centers. Historically, many hyperscale cloud service providers have used Dublin and Amsterdam as an inroad of sorts to the European market, which has given them strong roots in the region. Dunne also discusses Ireland’s power capabilities and the country’s commitment to sustainability. Formerly reliant on fossil fuels as a power supply, the country has been in the process of decommissioning that infrastructure and shifting to more sustainable sources – namely wind power.
