Elea Unveils Rio AI City: Transforming Rio de Janeiro into a Global AI Hub

Elea Data Centers proudly announces Rio AI City, a groundbreaking digital infrastructure project with a capacity of 1.5 GW, scalable up to 3.2 GW of renewable energy to support the accelerated growth of Artificial Intelligence and cloud computing.

Located in Rio de Janeiro’s Olympic Park region, this landmark initiative represents one of Latin America’s largest digital infrastructure investments, with the first phase delivering 1.5 GW and initial capacity of approximately 80 MW becoming available in 2026. The project builds on the already operational RJO1 data center and features waterless cooling systems, high-density rack infrastructure, and green skin architecture—all powered by 100% certified renewable energy.

Rio AI City emerges as a cornerstone of urban revitalization, directly connecting to the Mata Maravilha regeneration project in Porto Maravilha. This innovative ecosystem will transform over 200,000 sqm into a vibrant community blending technology with sustainability, featuring digital zones for green technology companies, iconic parks, residential areas, and cultural spaces.

The project positions Brazil and Rio de Janeiro at the global epicenter of digital transformation.

With strong institutional support from Rio de Janeiro City Hall, the initiative is expected to generate over 10,000 high-skilled jobs and attract hundreds of billions of dollars in investments over the next decade.

The strategic location connects to submarine cable hubs and regional power grids with 99.8% availability, creating an unparalleled foundation for the future of AI development in Latin America while reinforcing Rio’s emergence as a global technology leader.
