EdgeConneX announced its latest joint venture, and this time it’s with Aboitiz InfraCapital (AIC), the infrastructure arm of the Aboitiz Group and of the Philippines leading infrastructure investment conglomerates. The formation of the venture is to address the considerable and rising data usage in the Philippines, and will leverage AIC’s land management, power, and market expertise with EdgeConneX’s global data center platform, build, and operational capabilities.

In recent years, the APAC region has quickly been dubbed as the fastest-growing market, with the Phillippines market specifically expected to attract $635 million in investments by 2027. With such considerable growth, it’s poised to be a desirable location to usher in the next wave of digital infrastructure deployments and investments.

“In AIC, we have the ideal partner in the Philippines. They possess the local assets and expertise required to build out critical digital infrastructure that can best support our customers across the entire country. We look forward to investing in the digital economy of the Philippines and meeting our customers’ needs throughout the region. They complement our capabilities required to successfully capture this market opportunity.” – Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX

The exclusive partnership focuses on building a network of hyperscale data centers across the Philippines and will have priority access to land, power – including renewable sources, and local expertise provided by AIC. The first two data centers focus on the Manila metro area, with a connectivity-focused facility adjacent to the local internet exchange (IX) and a secondary hyperscale campus facility also located in the greater Manila area.

The partnership will look to tap AIC’s land bank of 1,400 hectares of prime industrial real estate and AboitizPower’s diversified renewable energy capacity, which the company aims to triple by 2030.

The partnership marks EdgeConneX’s tenth market in Asia that is either established or under development as it continues rapidly building out its data center platform in the region.
