EdgeConneX Brings Google Cloud Interconnect to Silicon Forest

Oregon’s high tech sector dates back to the 1940’s. Today, having such a high concentration of tech companies, it is now known as the Silicon Forest. With a cheaper cost of living than Silicon Valley and a large tech labor pool, the greater Portland metro area is seeing a ton of growth from tech startups to tech giants such as Google, Airbnb, eBay and Salesforce, along with being home to Intel’s largest facility in the world. Edge data center provider, EdgeConneX, is enabling even more tech capabilities by bringing Google Cloud Interconnect Services to its Portland Edge Data Center® (EDC) campus. Enterprises and service providers at the campus can now bypass the public internet through secure, scalable and affordable links to Google Cloud Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) networks.

“Portland is a great example of a historical Edge market that has quickly become a major interconnection hub in the region, the Silicon Forest. By offering premium, dedicated local private access to the cloud in Portland via Google Cloud Interconnect, our customers can enjoy all the benefits of the cloud with a secure, dedicated and local access solution. The fact that customers can simultaneously optimize performance and reduce costs, makes it even better.” – Aron Smith, Vice President for Interconnection Product Management at EdgeConneX

The carrier-neutral EdgeConneX Edge Campus located just outside of Portland in Hillsboro is comprised of two data centers and was recently expanded to become one of the richest local service provider ecosystems available in the Portland market. With a third facility under development, combined, the campus will offer up to 30MW of capacity.
