Digital 9 Infrastructure is committed to being a sustainable and responsible investor, and its recent acquisition underscores that allegiance. Environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria are at the epicenter of D9’s investment approach, so it makes perfect sense that the company has invested in Ficolo, a Finnish leader in climate neutral data center services. Finland was ranked as the top country in Robeco County Sustainability ranking, outperforming the EU average across all 15 ESG criteria.
“This deal is proof that our operating concept is effective. We look forward to the greater international connectivity D9 will help us achieve,” — Seppo Ihalainen, CEO of Ficolo.
The number 9 in Digital 9 Infrastructure comes from the UN Sustainable Development Goal 9, which focuses the fund on investments that increase connectivity globally and improve the sustainability of digital infrastructure.
“Sustainability has been at the heart of Ficolo since our inception, and all our operations are certified climate neutral. Digital 9 is a great owner for us, and with their help we can further improve our operations and achieve our goal to be carbon negative,” — Seppo Ihalainen
Digital 9 has invested more than £600 million since its 2021 IPO, acquiring companies such as Icelandic data centre company Verne Global and, in April 2022, London data centre company Volta. The acquisition is subject to approval by the Finnish Ministry of Employment and the Economy and is expected to close at the end of the year.
