Betting Big on Canada – What Does It Take?

Canada is one of the fastest growing markets for U.S. cloud service providers (CSPs) of all sizes. From a well-established digital infrastructure to a vibrant data center and service provider ecosystem, Canada offers CSPs attractive growth opportunities.

In fact, according to the IDC, Canadian spending on digital transformation in 2020 reached upwards of $28 billion. Though the COVID-19 pandemic resulted in a slight slowdown in growth relative to 2019, Canadian businesses will ramp up their spending through 2023, resulting in a five-year CAGR of 13%. Cloud-based solutions will contribute significantly to this trend as businesses continue to invest in public, hybrid and multi-cloud strategies.

To leverage these Canadian opportunities successfully, U.S. cloud providers need answers to networking challenges such as latency, WAN complexity, performance, and resiliency. As well, issues around data residency, data sovereignty and sustainability remain paramount for end-users, causing cloud providers to look for solutions that can accommodate specific requirements. While the largest cloud giants can afford to invest in their own private network and data center solutions, others need the benefits that only strategic partnerships provide.

Understanding both how to leverage data center corridors and make connections with the right cloud enablers can make all the difference for cloud providers considering a northward expansion. Leveraging real-world experience and in-depth research, Equinix and Omdia will discuss market entry strategies for cloud providers looking to chart their competitive path into the Canadian market.
