American Tower and IBM, two of the biggest names in digital infrastructure and technology, are combining forces to create enhanced customer experiences at the edge. The companies recently announced a partnership to accelerate the deployment of a hybrid, multi-cloud computing platform at the edge. American Tower will expand its neutral-host, Access Edge Data Center ecosystem to include IBM Hybrid Cloud Platform and Red Hat OpenShift.
The new partnership between American Tower and IBM will leverage 5G and AI to drive edge applications across industries, which will enable technologies like IoT, 5G, AI, and network automation. IBM will provide American Tower with a hybrid cloud platform and automated systems to create an edge cloud at their distributed real estate locations. American Tower will leverage its portfolio of assets, including its footprint of U.S. data centers to extend services to the edge.
The combined offerings of American Tower and IBM will help customers enhance security and expedite the process of analyzing data closer to its point of origin. The new edge sites are designed to provide data center infrastructure such as critical power, cooling, security, and network connectivity in a distributed fashion which makes them ideal for enterprise edge services.
As emerging technologies continue to require more processing power, companies across verticals will require more computing power at the edge, including the automotive, retail and hospitality industries. In recent years, research has proven the need for digital services will dramatically increase across all three, and the services American Tower and IBM provide will advance the level of service they can provide to their customers.
