1623 Farnam Edge Data Center Makes Debut

1623 Farnam’s ambitious $40 million edge data center expansion was completed, unveiling a larger data center space and upgrades to the facility’s electrical infrastructure. The opening is marked by a grand opening event including a cocktail reception, facility tours and a panel presentation featuring the 1623 Farnam team and key engineers. The project comes as a phase two of an initial $10 million expansion into the building’s fifth floor that was completed last year.

New construction upgraded the facility’s interconnection capabilities by adding redundant internal cabling, exterior fiber vaults, mechanical feeds, and a new electrical system supplying 6MW of power to the facility. The project aims to serve the demands of the ever-changing market, such as the edge capabilities that recent trends of 5G, online gaming and AR/VR require. The expanded facility and rich ecosystem that the 1623 Farnam team have curated, meet these demands with 75,000 gross square feet availability, redundant chilled water and 6 MW of power on a uniquely redundant power grid.

“Our coveted location in Omaha is essentially at the geographic center of the country. We are ‘in the middle’ and at the nexus of the country’s east-west and north-south fiber routes, making interconnection capabilities for our customers and partners all the more impactful. This new build is edge-focused and customer-focused, and the new vaults provide diverse conduit access to enable rapid deployment and provide ease of access for establishing new fiber connections.” – Todd Cushing, President of 1623 Farnam

The 1623 Farnam ecosystem consists of strong partnerships with leading cloud providers including Megaport, Telia and Google Cloud, whose largest North American cloud node is located close by in Papillon, Nebraska. And the presence of internet exchange Omaha IX allows customers to lower latencies and network costs while increasing control and performance. 1623 Farnam also maintains SOC 2 Type 1, SOC 2 Type 2, ISO 27001 and PCI industry certifications.
