Tecogen Introduces Revolutionary Dual-Power Cooling Solution for Data Centers

The AI boom has created an unprecedented challenge for data centers: they’re running out of power. With cooling systems consuming nearly one-third of a facility’s electrical capacity, operators face a critical bottleneck just as AI workloads demand more computing power than ever.

Now, Tecogen is changing the game, announcing it has engineered the world’s first dual-power chiller that operates on natural gas, electricity, or both. The TECOCHILL Hybrid-Drive Chiller automatically shifts cooling load to natural gas when demand spikes, instantly freeing up 30-40% more electrical capacity for critical IT workloads.

The numbers reveal that installing 5MW of natural gas cooling can boost profits over $1 million when that freed-up electrical power is redirected to revenue-generating computing operations.

“With the Blackwell chip doubling IT load, the last thing operators need is for their electric chillers to eat another 30% of their available power,” said Abinand Rangesh, Tecogen CEO. “But what if they could cool their facilities with the same efficiency as electric, but without sacrificing megawatts of power? We provide that.”

Available in configurations from 1MW to 1.5MW, the system transforms cooling from a cost center into a competitive advantage, allowing data centers to scale AI capabilities without grid constraints.
