FiberSense Founder and CEO Mark Englund has been awarded the Entrepreneur of the Year Award by Australia’s Pearcey Foundation. The award is chosen each year from one of the 2022 Pearcey State Entrepreneurs. Englund received the 2022 NSW Pearcey Entrepreneur of the Year Award last month.
The prestigious award “recognizes an outstanding entrepreneur who is making an impact both locally and globally.” The award seeks to recognize Australian entrepreneurs who have demonstrated innovation, taken risks, made a difference and are an inspiration to others in the industry and the wider community.
Englund holds a Ph.D in the core sensing technology of FiberSense and has more than 25 years of experience in optical fiber technology engineering and business building.
Just in the last year alone, the FiberSense founder has overseen activation of the company’s services across fiber networks in Europe, the Americas, Australia and across subsea cables linking major continents. FiberSense technology has also gained award-winning recognition this year. The technology, known as DigitalAsset™, offers advanced threat detection for critical infrastructure and underground assets, including water lines, oil and gas pipelines, power lines and fiber infrastructure. The technology provides an easy-to-use sensing service on existing assets while reducing costly downtime and expensive repairs to critical underground assets. The technology is also being deployed on a trial basis to monitor vibrations on nbn®’s fiber cable network in tandem with artificial intelligence to determine if the activities causing vibrations on the fiber pose a threat for accidental damage.
The Australia-based Pearcey Foundation is a non-profit organization founded in 1998 in memory of Australian ICT Pioneer Dr. Trevor Pearcey. The foundation works broadly throughout the Australian Information Communication Technologies (ICT) sector. The foundation presents 11 awards each year over the past 24 years, honoring more than 150 Australian entrepreneurs during that time.
