Télécoms Sans Frontières Provides Aid to The Bahamas After Hurricane Dorian Devastation

Télécoms Sans Frontières has deployed its teams to support those affected by Hurricane Dorian – the strongest hurricane in The Bahamas’ history

Télécoms Sans Frontières (TSF), founded in 1998 as the world’s first NGO focusing on emergency-response technologies, is active on the scene in The Bahamas, helping those affected by the devastation brought about by Hurricane Dorian, a Category 5 hurricane, and one of the strongest in history for the region; and the second strongest in the entire Atlantic since 1950.

Hurricane Dorian, with winds up to 185 miles per hour, made its landfall on the Abaco Islands in The Bahamas between September 1 and 2, ravaging the island before it moved west and caused severe damage to the Great Bahama island. More than 30 are reported to have lost their lives in this devastating storm, and the area is stricken with flooding, damage houses, cut-off power lines and now impassable roads.

Already TSF deployed two of its teams to the area; one from its regional office in Mexico and the other from its international headquarters location in France. As the teams reach the area, they are working hard to help coordinate and respond to the needs of the affected populations.

JSA is honored to support TSF and extends our gratitude to this organization that heroically responds to those impacted by humanitarian crises around the world. TSF gives people the possibility to contact their loved ones and begin to regain control of their lives, as well as builds rapid-response communications centers for local and international responders.

Since its creation, TSF responded to over 140 crises in more than 70 countries providing communication means to over 20 million people and nearly 1,000 NGOs. To learn more about this incredible organization, please visit https://www.tsfi.org/en.
