PowerHouse Data Centers Wins Prestigious NVTC Award for ABX-1 Data Center Project

PowerHouse Data Centers has been honored at the Northern Virginia Technology Council (NVTC) Data Center Awards. In association with parent company AREP and investment partner Harrison Street, PowerHouse received the 2024 Best Construction Project Award for its innovative ABX-1 data center located in Loudoun County—a build that exemplifies cutting-edge design and sustainability in the heart of one of the world’s most significant data center hubs, Data Center Alley.

The NVTC Data Center Awards, now in their fifth year, recognize and celebrate significant achievements and advancements in the data center fields within the region, which is known globally for its heavy concentration of data infrastructure. This year’s ceremony highlighted the role of visionary companies like PowerHouse in driving forward the digital infrastructure industry in Northern Virginia.

All About ABX-1
ABX-1, the project that clinched the award for PowerHouse, is a pioneering development, offering a two-story, 265,000 square foot powered shell that is engineered to support high-demand and low latency. The facility not only caters to the immediate needs of hyperscalers and operators but also demonstrates a robust commitment to environmental sustainability and energy efficiency.

The ABX-1 facility, now leased to CyrusOne, features an on-site 300MW electrical substation capable of delivering up to 80 MW of power, ensuring a stable and reliable energy supply for the most intensive users. Its strategic location not only provides optimal connectivity through direct access to one of the densest fiber networks globally but also offers zero-mile, low-latency connections to major cloud platforms and internet exchanges.

In the awards judging, the construction of ABX-1 was noted for its adherence to sustainable building practices. PowerHouse Data Centers and its construction partner, DPR Construction, implemented measures such as recycling 387 tons of building metals and repurposing approximately 10,780 tons of concrete from a previous structure on the site. These efforts significantly minimized the environmental impact associated with the development of new infrastructure.
