Novva Data Centers Announces New State-of-the-Art, Sustainable Data Center Campus in Mesa, Arizona

Novva Data Centers is set to make a significant mark in Mesa, Arizona, with its newest project, a 300MW data center campus spanning 160 acres. This facility will be developed in two phases over the next decade, with an investment exceeding $3 billion. The first phase, launching in late 2026, will feature 96 megawatts of critical IT load. Upon completion, the Mesa site will include five data halls, an office building, and a warehouse, all within a 1.3 million square foot footprint. In keeping with Novva’s commitment to sustainability, the campus will feature architectural elements like rammed earth materials that pay tribute to the ancient Hohokam people and their pioneering aqueducts.

Designed to be a leader in sustainable technology, the Mesa campus will incorporate renewable energy sources such as solar power and utilize dark sky lighting to minimize light pollution. High-density deployments suitable for direct-to-chip cooling will be employed, leveraging both liquid (non-water) and air-cooling systems. These innovations are expected to conserve up to 650 million gallons of water annually, a significant improvement over traditional cooling methods that could otherwise discharge large volumes of wastewater. Rainwater capture systems will also be implemented to support desert landscaping, ensuring the facility remains eco-friendly and efficient.

Security and efficiency are at the forefront of the Mesa campus. The site will feature robotic and drone surveillance to maintain security around the clock. Backup diesel generators will operate on 2nd generation biofuel and hydrotreated vegetable oil, reducing emissions and environmental impact. The use of recyclable polypropylene pipes for the chilled water loop further demonstrates Novva’s commitment to sustainability and innovation in reducing its carbon footprint.

Novva’s approach to data center development emphasizes sustainable building practices, resource preservation, and community engagement. As CEO Wes Swenson stated, “Building sustainably, preserving natural resources, and ensuring that we are addressing community concerns are our top priorities.” The Mesa campus will aim for 100% renewable energy use, significantly lower water consumption, and long-term operational efficiency.

This new Mesa location marks Novva’s sixth campus, joining existing sites in West Jordan, Utah; Colorado Springs, Colorado; Reno, Nevada; Las Vegas; and San Francisco. As Novva continues to expand, it remains committed to setting new standards for sustainability and innovation in the data center industry.
