Capacity Metro Connect celebrated its 25th anniversary this year, and once again it proved why it remains one of the most important gatherings for the digital infrastructure community. Thousands of executives, investors, network operators and technology providers came together in Fort Lauderdale to talk about where the industry is headed next.
I had the pleasure of attending with my wonderful JSA colleagues Emily Sharrer and Katie Blondell, and as always, it was a busy and energizing week filled with insightful conversations, new connections and plenty of industry perspectives.

One of the biggest highlights for our team was conducting the latest series of JSA TV interviews with some of the industry’s leading voices. These conversations give us the opportunity to capture real-time insights from executives across the telecom and digital infrastructure ecosystem. Topics of conversation ranged from AI-ready infrastructure to network expansion strategies to emerging market opportunities and more.

And let’s talk about the industry buzz at the event – the top themes that stood out to us during the week were:
AI Infrastructure Is Accelerating Network Demand
Unsurprisingly, artificial intelligence dominated many of the discussions at Metro Connect this year. As AI adoption accelerates, so does the need for infrastructure capable of supporting massive data processing and movement.
Across panels and conversations, industry leaders emphasized the growing demand for power, data centers and high-capacity connectivity. Fiber networks will play a critical role in supporting this growth, connecting hyperscale campuses and enabling the data transport required to power AI-driven applications.
Fiber Continues to Anchor the Digital Economy
While AI is shaping the next phase of growth, fiber remains the backbone of everything happening across the digital infrastructure ecosystem.
Many discussions focused on continued investment in metro fiber networks, backbone infrastructure and FTTH deployments. With cloud, AI and bandwidth-intensive applications driving demand, the need for scalable, high-capacity fiber networks has never been greater.
Metro Connect has long been known as a key meeting point for operators, investors and infrastructure providers—and it was clear throughout the week that momentum around fiber investment remains strong.
The Power of Industry Connections
Beyond the panels and presentations, Metro Connect continues to stand out for its networking opportunities. Events throughout the week create space for meaningful conversations and partnerships that move the industry forward.
One highlight was Light Source Communications’ La Noche de Luz, a vibrant evening that brought together colleagues and friends from across the industry. It was a fantastic reminder that while our industry moves fast, the relationships behind it are just as important.

Metro Connect always provides a great pulse check on where the industry is heading—and it’s exciting to see the innovation and collaboration driving the future of connectivity. Until next time!
