EdgeConneX Earns Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) Recognition

EdgeConneX has announced its formal validation by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and near-term science-based emissions reduction targets. Reaching this milestone is significant because it affirms the company’s commitment to building and operating sustainable data centers worldwide, achieving carbon, waste, and water neutrality by 2030. The Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) is an acclaimed global partnership enabling businesses to set ambitious emissions reductions targets in line with the latest climate science.

The SBTi’s Target Validation Team has classified EdgeConneX Scope 1 and 2 target ambition as in line with a 1.5°C trajectory, currently the most ambitious designation available through the SBTi process for companies within the ICT sector.

As noted by SBTI: EdgeConneX, International Cooperatief U.A. commits to reduce absolute scope 1 and 2 GHG emissions 50.3% by 2030 from a 2021 base year*. EdgeConneX, International Cooperatief U.A. also commits to scope 3 emissions 51.6% per MegaWatt of installed data center capacity within the same timeframe. *The target boundary includes biogenic land-related emissions and removals from bioenergy feedstocks.

“We are incredibly proud to receive this recognition from the SBTi,” said Randy Brouckman, CEO of EdgeConneX. “This validation is an achievement and a testament to our unwavering commitment to sustainability and our resolve to take decisive action towards environmental stewardship. As responsible corporate citizens, we recognize our role in creating a sustainable future, and this validation reaffirms that we are on the right path.”

EdgeConneX has made significant strides in its commitment to sustainability.  The company has created its Green Financing Framework, established Procurement Policies emphasizing sustainable solutions, and much more, to become carbon, waste, and water neutrality by 2030.

The company was also recently recognized with the highest ranking in the Structure Research 2023 State of Environmental Impact report, highlighting its deep commitment to efficiency and transparency as it relates to sustainability and the environment. A significant achievement, the report analyzed 27 data center providers and nine hyperscale platforms that have published at least one ESG report. It provides a comprehensive view of the data center industry’s impact on climate change, ranking ESG Leaders on three key attributes: Level of Transparency, Operational Data Center Efficiency, and Renewable Energy Usage.
