eStruxture welcomes its new Calgary data center with a reception on Thursday, Nov. 14.

What eStruxture’s new Calgary data center means for the economy

As the Albertan government looks for answers to faltering GDP performance, the telecom industry is providing solutions by way of data centers, like eStruxture’s new CAL-1 facility. Global News reports Alberta is experiencing a slowdown in growth and job creation because of a lull in the oil and gas sector. A growing number of businesses, especially in the Calgary area, are turning to data and technology to drive growth and efficiency despite the region’s wider economic challenges.

Data centers are a key component of Calgary’s budding data economy, acting as vital connectivity hubs for businesses to connect to their partners, internet service providers, carriers, cloud and content providers. According to The Information and Communications Technology Council, the adoption of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence and data science across multiple Albertan enterprise verticals is creating demand for new digital roles.

“With cleantech, advanced manufacturing and interactive digital media as just some of Calgary’s burgeoning sectors, our CAL-1 data center is perfectly positioned to support technological trends shaping the future of the city’s economic development. When we acquired this facility from Shaw, we instantly became the only pan-Canadian carrier and cloud-neutral provider of data center solutions in Calgary. That means that our customers, whether energy companies, software developers or municipal agencies, have uninhibited access to the colocation and network connectivity options they need to succeed. We’re excited to officially open the doors to our CAL-1 data center and look forward to supporting the economic diversity of Calgary for years to come,” said Todd Coleman, CEO of eStruxture Data Centers.

The eStruxture Data Centers promise

eStruxture’s CAL-1 data center is a highly scalable, 65,000 square foot facility that supports high-density deployments of up to 30kW per cabinet. With the latest in power delivery equipment, energy-efficient cooling and multiple security zones, CAL-1 provides a haven for the IT infrastructure of eStruxture’s customers. The data center adheres to the highest compliance standards, including SSAE16, ISAE 3402, SOC 1 Type II, SOC 2 Type II and SOC 3, PCI DSS, HIPAA and is Tier III Certified. Moreover, thanks to the terms of the acquisition, Shaw continues to resell colocation services through the CAL-1 facility. More details of the deal can be found on eStruxture’s website.
