The digital future is getting an upgrade! CleanArc Data Centers has officially broken ground on its highly anticipated VA1 campus in Caroline County, Virginia. Set to deliver 900MW of grid capacity, this hyperscale facility is engineered to be a cornerstone of scalable, efficient and sustainable digital infrastructure.
Governor Glenn Youngkin joined local officials, community partners and CleanArc leadership at the groundbreaking ceremony, celebrating the official start of construction on the project.
“Today marks an important milestone for CleanArc Data Centers and Northern Virginia,” said James Trout, Founder and CEO of CleanArc Data Centers. “This new, leading-edge campus reflects our commitment to delivering reliable, efficient and sustainable data center solutions while supporting the local economy and workforce.”
Engineering for Tomorrow
VA1 isn’t just about size. It’s about smart design. Key features that set this facility apart include:
- Staged Power Delivery: The full 900MW capacity will roll out strategically. The first 300MW is slated for the first quarter of 2027, with the second 300MW following in 2030, and the final stage scheduled for 2033–2035. This phased approach guarantees robust redundancy and future-proof scalability.
- A Green Blueprint: Sustainability is baked into the design. The campus minimizes environmental impact through land conservation, closed-loop systems for minimal water use and features that mitigate noise and light pollution. A cornerstone of this commitment is CleanArc’s “True Additionality” energy model, which integrates new clean energy resources into the local electric grids to offset consumption.
- Modular Speed-to-Market: To meet the aggressive demands of hyperscale customers, CleanArc is utilizing advanced modular design and off-site manufacturing. This accelerates deployment timelines by delivering pre-engineered, factory-tested systems, ensuring customers can hit the market faster.
More Than Just a Building
This substantial project is backed by investors Snowhawk, Nuveen and Townsend Group. Beyond its technological significance, the VA1 campus is positioned as a powerful economic driver. It is expected to generate approximately $13 million in new annual tax revenue for Caroline County and will create at least 50 new full-time jobs, in addition to hundreds of construction roles. CleanArc has also committed to supporting regional growth by partnering with local vendors and workforce programs.
VA1 is setting the standard for the next generation of digital infrastructure — powerful, responsible and ready for what’s next.
Congratulations, CleanArc Team!
