We’re back at it! During the busy holiday season, JSA is making sure to spread some holiday cheer by giving back to our local communities. Taking part in what is now an annual tradition for me, my Tuesday afternoon was spent wrapping gifts at the Galleria Mall in Fort Lauderdale to support The Heart Gallery of Broward County.
The Heart Gallery is a traveling photography exhibit of the many foster children of Broward County that are in need of a forever family. The gallery is displayed in public places as an exhibit, with a picture and bio that describes each child’s personality and interests with the goal of encouraging the community to adopt, volunteer or donate money or goods. Now in its 15th year, the Heart Gallery of Broward County boasts 200+ adoptions since inception.
The recommended donation to have a gift wrapped was $5 per box, and many holiday shoppers gave a little extra to help support the children of The Heart Gallery. Yvette DuBose, Executive Director spends the 12 days leading up to Christmas organizing volunteers and manning the wrapping station from 9:00am – 8:00pm. Her dedication is truly inspirational considering she has 4 children at home, 2 of which are foster children.
