Announcing its 10-year anniversary as a high capacity network provider, Hibernia Networks celebrates its major milestones at International Telecoms Week (ITW) 2013. Hibernia has many notable ‘firsts’ and accomplishments including completion of the first 100 Gbps transatlantic trial on cable from Nova Scotia to England, and the first company to offer native 40 Gbps across the Atlantic for commercial use.
Hibernia got its start through the purchase of a transatlantic submarine cable from 360networks in 2003 and has since grown to over 172 Points of Presence (PoPs) in 24 countries and across 274,000 kilometers of fiber.
Other Hibernia achievements include:
- – First to offer 40 Gbps over a subsea span between US and Canada
- – First to offer 10 Gbps Ethernet LAN-PHY capacity across the Atlantic
- – Completion of the deployment of Project Kelvin, a contract awarded by the European Union, bringing direct international connectivity into the northwest region of Ireland as well as a fiber-rich fiber ring into 12 cities in Northern Ireland and connecting them via a new submarine link to North America and Europe
