Yesterday, GlobeNet, a wholesale provider of data network and infrastructure services in the Americas announced an enhancement of its IP and Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) services in Brazil. The improvement is made possible by new access to key Internet Exchange Points (IXPs/PTTs) in Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro.

Both key IXPs are managed by which created and promotes the necessary infrastructure for direct interconnection between autonomous systems in Brazil.

The major benefit of this upgrade is cost savings. Connecting directly to an IXP eliminates the need for third-party networks (reducing costs significantly) and allows traffic balances to be resolved directly and locally. This method enables network providers with greater control, allowing them to route traffic as close to the desired destination as possible. Customers experience enhanced performance, quality and more efficient operations of the Internet as a whole.

Access to the new IXPs/PTTs is benefiting GlobeNet customers of the below services in the following ways:

  • IP Transit: GlobeNet provides direct, high performance Internet connectivity at speeds ranging from 50Mbps to 10Gbps, with zero over-subscription and rapid scalability.
  • GNIIX: Internet Service Providers (ISPs) can access content and advertise their networks at the most relevant IXPs via a local connection managed by the customer, with scalability up to 10Gbps. As an example, ISPs located in Fortaleza are able to have a presence at both Sao Paulo and Rio de Janeiro PPTs via GlobeNet’s solution.
  • Virtual Router available in SP2 Sao Paulo Internet Exchange for ISPs and carriers requiring a presence in the facility.

IaaS is in high demand. As a result, GlobeNet is expanding its colocation facilities in Rio de Janeiro and providing attractive bundles to customers that want to take advantage of the improved connectivity to the Brazilian IXP/PTTs by colocating within its facilities.
