Hibernia Networks’ Gary Seery, IT Director, and Ciena’s David van de Wetering, Account Manager, are teaming up to brave the frigid Arctic temperatures during the UVU North Pole Marathon in an effort to raise money for Habitat for Humanity. The duo will embark on the 26.2-mile journey at the geographic North Pole on April 9, 2015.

The UVU North Pole Marathon is a feat that few have attempted. Only 350 individuals from 40 countries have completed the race to date, which requires runners to endure -25° C (13° F) temperatures. Mr. Seery and Mr. van de Wetering are ultra athletes and specialists who not only understand the challenge, but have also embraced the extensive preparation and unique training requirements.

The team will be raising funds for Habitat for Humanity through their fundraiser, the North Pole Home Run. Every step Mr. Seery and Mr. van de Wetering take will aid in the effort to build houses for those who do not have a place to call home. The money donated to the North Pole Home Run will be used to construct homes in impoverished communities across the globe.

“It’s an honor to run on behalf of Hibernia and to raise funds for those in need,” says Gary Seery, IT Director at Hibernia Networks. “The partnership between David and me is a natural extension of our companies’ relationship. I’m looking forward to taking this 26.2-mile journey in the Arctic with a trusted colleague.”

The teamwork of Mr. Seery and Mr. van de Wetering is a natural extension of Hibernia and Ciena’s long-standing partnership. Hibernia has been a Ciena BizConnect Partner since the spring of 2014 and the two global companies recently announced the upgrade of Hibernia’s trans-Atlantic subsea cable with Ciena’s GeoMesh submarine solution.
